How to Use Hardwood Mulch

Apply a 2–4 inch layer of Hardwood Mulch around trees, shrubs, flower beds and landscape areas, keeping mulch a few inches away from trunks and plant stems. Water thoroughly after application to help settle the mulch, then refresh as needed to maintain moisture retention, weed suppression, and a finished landscape appearance.

1

Prepare the Area

Remove weeds, leaves, and debris from the landscape area before applying Hardwood Mulch. For best results, clear space around tree trunks and plant stems to allow proper airflow.

2

Apply Evenly

Spread a 2–4 inch layer of Hardwood Mulch around trees, shrubs, flower beds and garden areas. Avoid piling mulch against trunks or woody stems, as this can impact plant health.

3

Water Thoroughly

Water the mulched area after application to help settle the mulch and support moisture retention in the soil.

4

Refresh as Needed

Hardwood Mulch naturally breaks down over time and can be replenished as needed to maintain a clean appearance, suppress weeds and protect your landscape.

Hardwood Mulch FAQs

What is the difference between Hardwood Mulch and Living Mulch?

Hardwood Mulch is a traditional landscape mulch designed to enhance the appearance of beds while helping retain moisture, suppress weeds, and regulate soil temperatures. Living Mulch combines hardwood mulch with compost to provide the added benefit of organic matter and nutrients for improved soil health.

How often should I replace Hardwood Mulch?

Hardwood Mulch naturally breaks down over time and can be refreshed as needed to maintain its appearance and benefits. Many landscapes benefit from adding a new layer once or twice a year.

Does Hardwood Mulch help with weeds?

Yes. A properly applied layer of Hardwood Mulch helps block sunlight from reaching weed seeds, reducing weed growth while also helping conserve moisture and protect soil temperatures.
