Why should I go organic? See what your neighbors have to say.
Organic gardening is important to me because it means I can be confident in letting my kids and pets play in the garden without worry. Organic gardening improves the soil instead of destroying it. This helps the beneficial insects and will help the plants to use water more effectively. -Tommy, Dickinson TX
In years past I used Scott's Weed and Feed on our lawn and toxic pesticides to kill termites. I am grateful that I am learning about a better way now, appreciating birds, butterflies and even caterpillars in my yard and not having to worry about my children getting sick as a "side effect" of a chemical quick fix. -Irmi, Copperas Coves, TX
Recently, I have come to realize that the chemically grown food sold in stores is not only tasteless, it is lacking the nutrition that my body needs. If the soil it is grown in is used over and over and the crops are only fed chemicals to keep them going to market quickly, the food will not have what my body needs. I call it pseudofood. Using organics is not a quick fix method of gardening but a much healthier and wiser one. -Kathy, Euless TX
Organic gardening has been and is a joy to me. Learning about it's benefits not only to my family but to the surrounding environment is very important and is a better way to grow crops and plants. -Eliasar, Austin TX
I converted to organic gardneing when I was living in San Antonio and listening to Bob Webster's gardening show on KTSA. Some of his frequent guests were Howard Garrett and Malcolm Beck. After seeing the benefits of organic gardening both in in my lawn and vegetables I knew for sure this is the way mother nature intended. I kept practicing the organic method when I was stationed in Guam and continue to do so here in Washington DC. Tomatoes that I would buy in the commissary would turn into a gelatinous goo on my counter while the ones I grew stayed fresh for weeks. If people only knew that what they put on their lawn ends up in the carpet on which their children play, maybe they would convert. -Richard O. Washington DC
I have always been hesitant about putting out chemical pesticides. They smell terrible and always have big warnings on the label. I enjoy gardenign knowing I am trying to benefit the earth and not destroy it. -Davy, Joshua TX
I believe we are put here to be the stewards of this beautiful planet. A couple of years ago I put out my synthetic fertilizer like I'd done for years. Later, I walked barefoot across the lawn to get my newspaper and the soles of my feet began to burn. That was my wakeup call to seek out organic methods. -Mike, Abilene TX
I have turned to organic gardening because I have two children. Organic gardenign gives them an earth with a future. -Kim, La Vernia TX
